While waiting in limbo, displaced LGBTQ+ folks hoping to find asylum in the United States find support and healing with one another, as they process the heartbreak and joy of a queer family on the move.

Synopsis: Set in a one of the few LGBTQ+ shelters in Tijuana, jardines is an intimate portrait documenting the life experiences and trajectories unique to displaced queer folks as they flee violence and persecution in their home countries. The film introduces us to people from all over the world as they deal with the uncertainty of a future in the United States at a time when laws around asylum and LGBTQ+ rights are under legal duress. It is in this limbo where the film happens, sitting with residents of the shelter in their present, as strangers become friends and family that might share together moments of joy and grief, sorrow and hope.

As asylum policies become increasingly restrictive and new waves of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation are passed throughout the U.S and the world, this short film insists on its personal and artistic responsibility to create and contribute to a severely neglected archive that is our own.
